Our team were back at regular client David Lloyd Leisure, this time at their Royal Berkshire Club where we refurbished and repaired over 140 items of furniture in three-and-a-half-days.
THE CLIENT
David Lloyd is Europe’s leading health, fitness and leisure business, with 133 clubs across the UK and Europe. Its clubs feature a wide array of fitness and health facilities such as gyms, swimming pools and spas, as well as lounges and break-out areas for relaxation and socialising.
THE BRIEF
The David Lloyd Royal Berkshire Club Lounge features over 140 items of furniture, including sofas, armchairs, stools and chairs. The seating cushions required refurbishment and covering, while the seating backs needed recovering, and some frame repairs were also needed.
The Club Lounge is a busy area with high occupancy and traffic and also includes an adult-only quiet area, so disruption needed to be kept to a minimum during the process.
DESIGN & PRODUCTION
Working closely with David Lloyd to ensure a quality finish in keeping with the style and ambience of the Club Lounge, we took a staged approach that was both efficient and minimised disruption.
- Preparation: We discussed with David Lloyd Leisure the colour schemes they wanted to implement across the region and also lent us an example of each type of chair. We then sourced the materials from specialist supplier Panaz
- Production: Using the sample chairs we were able to create a template for each of the seating types, and sew all the cushion covers at our workshop, ready for fitting on-site
INSTALLATION
The sewn covers were brought up to the Club, where we completed the refurbishment over the next three-and-a-half days in a private area away from patrons. The process included:
- Steaming: By using a steamer unit, we were able to plump the seat cushions back up into their as-new shape, avoiding the cost of buying new ones. This also sanitises the foam.
- Covering: All cushions and fabric-covered frames were refurbished with the new covers from our workshop in small batches to minimise disruption within the popular lounge areas
- Repair: Any damaged cushion or wooden frame was repaired on-site to ensure all chairs were in top condition again
So far we have had the pleasure of working at eleven David Lloyd sites, including Edinburgh, Birmingham, Swindon and Exeter. With such an extensive range of needs across the various locations, David Lloyd Clubs have been able to utilise many of our services, including lounge furniture refurbishment, gym pad repair and furniture prototyping for specialist projects. With many sites still to visit, we look forward to our ongoing work with this prestigious client.
