Founded in 1886, Guildford Golf Club is Surrey’s oldest golf club. Located on Merrow Downs, it features an 18-hole course set across Surrey downland and bordered by woodland. Its clubhouse offers a range of bars and dining spaces, along with a terrace overlooking the 18th green.
Clubhouse furniture is often positioned in high-traffic areas, where regular use by members, visitors and event guests can quickly lead to worn fabric, marks and a decline in overall appearance. Maintaining consistent furniture quality across busy bars, lounges and dining spaces can therefore be an ongoing challenge.
When Guildford Golf Club wanted to refresh its seating, it chose a more cost-effective and sustainable alternative to buying new furniture. Yorx reupholstered 65 existing chairs at the clubhouse, transforming them with two complementary fabrics from Sunbury Design: Dunbar Glenmore Palace and Dunbar Fife Lago. The colourways were reversed across the set, creating a balanced and cohesive finish while adding subtle visual interest.
To minimise disruption at the club, the chairs were collected in three batches. Each batch was reupholstered in our workshop and returned approximately 10 days later, ensuring seating remained available throughout the project.
The result was a smart, coordinated upgrade that complements the clubhouse while extending the lifespan of its existing furniture, a practical demonstration of how professional reupholstery can reduce costs, minimise waste and give older pieces a new lease of life.
